Thunder Basin Sagebrush
December 2007. Additional efforts to eliminate cheatgrass and prickly-pear in large grassland ecosystem which provides habitat for a wide array of grassland species. Joins efforts of Thunder Basin Grassland Prairie Ecosystem Association.
Stock Tank Escape Ramps
June 2007. Inventory, ordering, and delivery of approximately 5,000 ramps to allow birds and small mammals to escape from water tanks. Project is coordinated statewide by the Niobrara County Conservation District.
Goshen Basin Wetlands
June 2007. Re-establishment and creation of shallow-water wetlands in Goshen County, will add approximately 600 acres of prime breeding, nesting, and migratory habitat for as many as 140 species of birds. Project will also remove exotic species in wetland areas.
Riparian Reforestation
June 2007. Elimination of salt cedar and Russian olive on the Cheyenne River, Lightning Creek, Lance Creek, and Greasewood Creek in Niobrara County. Project will help to increase water availability and restore native shrubs and trees to the watershed.
Thunder Basin Grasslands
June 2007. Ongoing program with multiple landowners utilizing fire, grazing management, and invasive species control to enhance habitats for grassland birds, raptors, small mammals, and other wildlife. This project is coordinated by a landowner's organization, and also improves forage for livestock.
Laramie River Invasives
June 2007. Elimination of salt cedar and Russian olive on drainages near Wheatland, to increase habitat for birds, deer, and small mammals.
